After a few days been in Germany, I must admit that everyone in my family miss our Home in GA, its warm weather, its amazing blue skies and access to the pool the majority of the time, and above all, IT’s PEOPLE… the warm welcoming of the South was what made my family and I felt in love with. We arrive to Georgia in the summer of 2016, without a clue of where we will end up. All I knew was my reporting date at work and the hotel address where we will be spending the first 30 days until we find a place to live. It didn’t take long for my wife and the kids to starting enjoying the weather and the cordiality and care of the people who work at the hotel, it truly touched us. One day after looking at several apartment complexes my wife and I decided to simply rent a 3 bedroom apartment not far from Fort Gordon. Honestly, the apartment was nice, brand new and with all the amenities my wife and kids can use and enjoy on a daily basis. But, (there is always a But), my wife decided to drive around “this place” she heard over the radio call, Canterbury Farms, who claimed to be the top rated neighborhood for the past 5 years, so we drove there. From the moment we entered the neighborhood, it felt differently, it was like hidden among an amazing landscape, and it felt and smell like a Country Club resort. We found the Model Home and walked in to take a look at Ivis Home had as a Show Room. As we waited for any of the agents to get free, my wife and the kids were amazed on how spacious and large American Homes are made compared to European homes. As I sat in the living room, I knew at that moment this was “GAME OVER”. Finally, we met with an Agent, her name was Lisa, and the first thing I noticed was that her office was full of pictures of her kids and how proud she was of them. Our conversation started by my wife explaining that we just moved from Germany and we were not sure of renting or considering buying a house, knowing that we will be moving back to Germany in about 3 years. Lisa displayed a profound understanding on how make my wife feel comfortable, something I find very unique! Not only we both felt as been NOT been push to buy but instead shown the possibilities on a 3 to 5 year projection, and that was ALL we need to make move on buying instead. This lasted a while, and Lisa was super nice to drive us to multiple Home, with different plans, different neighborhoods layouts, and sometimes even back to the homes we previously were to make us feel as we were as comfortable as possible. Well, just like that we managed to use the money we were going to use for the deposit for an apartment towards the deposit for the land chosen by us. In the end we bought the house we wanted, where we wanted, the way we wanted and paying approximately $500 less per month than if I was renting. The story doesn’t end here, Lisa and my family became close, and as a matter of fact she became my neighbor from a few houses from the one she helped me built. She helped us out in so many ways and was always engage with my kids birthdays or simply stopping by to have coffee with my wife. Working for the DoD is a challenge and after 13 months, I had to move as I took a job in Washington DC. My family didn’t follow me, they were super comfortable in Georgia and there was no way I will place them into the whole moving stress in just a year of arriving in the USA. My family and I don’t have any relatives in Georgia, and Lisa became this family member that you can rely on, from all different angles we had multiple conversations on how could we make this work if we ended up moving away. In just 12 months after arriving to Washington DC, I was moving back to Germany and Lisa became our property manager, who needless to say was always in touch with me and my wife, keeping us inform of any event, or needs. As a home owner who places it home for rent is very stressful to know that something might go wrong with anything in the house, lights, water, licking issues, AC systems, but no matter what, Lisa was there for us, always looking for the wellbeing of my assets. At the time my tenant left my home after a year and a half of living there, Lisa took care of EVERYTHING! I never had to call anyone to clean my place, to check on my appliances, or anything like related to that, she took care of it. She also provided a personal advised based on current situations and represent my wife and me as we decided to place the home for sale. At this time, I knew I was in great hands and in matters of days we received our first office and weeks later we close with the buyer provided by her. I know whoever reads this might have a long list of questions, doubts and concerns, but rest assure, you will not be in better hands as I am not referring you to someone with a title, or a fancy business card; I am referring you to an superb professional who became friend and a close member of my family, and YES, it is Better with Medders!
